Review of Three Microwavable Frozen Gluten-Free Pasta and Cheese Products – No Allergen Food

Review of UDI’s Gluten Free Rich and Creamy Penne and Cheese with Uncured Bacon, Eating Right’s Gluten Free Mac and Cheese, and Trader Joes Gluten Free Mac and Cheese.

All of these items were cooked in a 1250 watt microwave oven.  Where instructions were given that gave a range of cooking times.  The shortest times were used because this is a relatively powerful microwave

Best of the lot.  Macaroni was well cooked and the cheese sauce was only slightly separated.  Easy to cook.

Best Sauce out of the bunch.  The bacon is a bit disappointing as it hard to recognize it as bacon.  Not a bad taste but not as I expected.  The pasta was quite under cooked.  There are no conventional oven directions. UDI’s makes some very good gluten free food.  This is ok but not up to their usual standards.

Comes in a two serving tub in a sealed plastic bag.  The instructions do not include a step where the plastic was opened or pierced.  I poked a small hole in the plastic before heating it to prevent an explosion.  The pasta was very well done but the cheese sauce was severely separated.  Even stirring did not help much.  I will not buy this brand again unless I try cooking it in a conventional oven.
